Damon.....Thanks for showing you'r setup and giving insight.
I could only remember d2mini switching to HPS.

I recently stopped lighting my fuge to let the red cotton algae and something else [???] die off. I started with 2X24ho 6500K fixture. Then a LED likehttp://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-90W-LED-Grow-Light-10-Spectrums-IR-Indoor-Hydroponic-System-Plant-Ufo-UFO-/251275753407 this. And neither gave good results after running this way for a year.

So not planning to completely give up I wanted to try something else.
Because like you'r sump mine is large with a pod/chaeto area of 18X22X10

Edit..Suggestion on light are welcome.

Sure thing and no problem.. And a few others have switched over on forums after d2 basically shared his experiences with them.. I am running a sunlight supply system.. But a few companies make them..

I'm still pouncing along with the same hps fixture (and bulb). It is very ironic that you mentioned the led fixture. I tried one once again for about a month. The results were most terrible and I almost lost my complete colony. It was very interesting to say the least, because at least I used to be able to keep cheato alive with small led fixtures. And this was a full panel unit.

But after that, I went back to my good old sodium and things went right back to normal.. The funny thing is I am in a much larger tank now(I went from a 55 to now a 180 dt). I am still using the same light on the larger sump (75 gallon) and it continuously grows well.. On this system, it's even more dense, I'm not sure if it's because I have more area, or what exactly it is.. But I am, harvesting a bit more often.. I had to look through pictures I sent to my buddy because I hadn't really thought about it, but it grows really well.. He was asking about the tumbling and blah blah.. Lol, I was telling him that with strong light, you don't have to worry about tumbling.. Lol, he didn't believe me and said "OK, show me what it looks like", so I did.. I was basically showing him that it doesn't get light colored at all, until it starts growing it of the water..

I left the amount showing in the sump from the harvest shown in the bucket and in my hand. This was two of the three bundles I broke apart from the crazy mat that these things produce.. But honestly, I don't even think about the cheato anymore, short of when I need to harvest it.. Really, and honestly, it just works with that light.. And this has been on a much, much larger system..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/150W-HPS-CO...w-Lamp-150-watt-bulb-cap-sodium-/160992974597 Thinking this one for the wide reflector to cover my fuge area. And at this price I can afford to replace it after a few years if the salty moisture eats it up.
For some odd reason, tapatalk isn't directing correctly. However, I see it has "150w hps complete mini sun light grow system". It is probably the same type of light I have. So it would be good. The only thing about other systems, is I don't know the cooling capacity of the reflector design, etc, because, that makes a difference also. I have used sunlight systems for a very long time, simply because they always have and do seem to run cool. But, below is the exact unit I have. Anything similar I'm sure would be fine..
