Refugium Lighting

So I had a coralife 2 x 65 watt pc fixture with just the 65 watt 10k bulb lighting my refugium which is a section in a 29 gallon, I wanted to switch to a lower k rated bulb and the fixture has fans that run really loud at night, so I went to home depot to look for the "grow bulb" and all I could find was the 100 watt 5500k natural light CFL. i looked for a 6500k but couldn't find one, I did read that chaeto will grow fine under 5500k i just didnt know if the 100 watts were going to be too much. Any opinions would be great.

only uses 16watts as well, think green!!!! Its a 6500k as well...

thats the one i looked at and it wasnt 6500k, I looked at every bulb and i couldnt find 6500k, the one i got seems fine, its still an energy saver and actually says it saves 87 dollars

I think you will be just fine.. if it seems like too much light i would pull it back some.

ok its sitting about 10 inches above right now so i think it will be fine, i will let you know the growth i get. thanks puffin and milehigh

just an update, this bulb works great the chaeto has grown like crazy already.
