Refugium Question

This past weekend I put my 90 gallon tank together. I built my own refugium and wanted to know if I should put live sand in it or if I need to put refugium mud in it.

My next question is when should I be able to transfer my fish over into this tank.

I think mud is a waste of money IMO, sand is the better choice to me. Hope that helps, Wiz
