refugium question?

Hi,
I try to save one power head for the fuge, so thinking of using the outlput from the skimmer feed to the fuge then to the return.
Wonder doing like that is there any benefit left for the fuge?
Any idea? Thanks, shin.

i'd give the fuge raw water from the display tank, if the water is skimmed before going to the fuge, the inverts in the fuge will starve & cant benefit the water column

I think you'll be fine. I used to take skimmer water from overflow then it was fed into the refugium. The skimmer couldn't take all the nutrients out of the water. On second thought, the water that entered the fuge also went thru a filter bag before going into the skimmer and refugium. I still had plenty of pods and macro growth. Maybe I would have had more if it was run the otherway around, I don't know, But IME you're idea will work fine.

I agree with Joe. Seems alot of reefers try to split the raw water so that some go to skimmer and some go to fuge then it all comes back together in the main sump to be pumped back to tank

When I started the fuge, there were lost of pods. I split the return from the chiller to the fuge and the return. I also had a maxi900 in the fuge. Now I don't see any pods at all. Not sure because the flow is strong. But cutting down the power head, I see algea bloom in the fuge already...Light is on reverse hours for 5 hours a day with a 23w (=90w) flood light. Don't know what is right and what 's wrong!!!
