Refugium ?

I am getting ready to pu a 10 gallon refugium under my 55. I am using it for nutrient export as well as a place for pods to grow. Should i leave it bb or put some sand it it. Also should I put lr in it. I am going to be using chaeto. Thanks

I personally feel that the sand helps for even more de-nitrifying bacteria. I personally feel that an optimized live rock / swimming room is best for a tank. Obviously, with nothing swimming in the fuge, cramming as much as you can is best.

Be sure to make sure your live rock is cured, otherwise you'll introduce a new ammonia spike.

I just set up my fuge the sand looks nice plus the pods like to play in it. I think a little rock looks good in there as well and adds to the comfort of the pods and other worms and things that may spawn and provide beneficial food. Here's a pic

Thanks for the replies. Also I am either going to use a maxi jet 1200 or a maxi jet 400 to pump water in to to fuge. Which would be better in terms of flow. Will a maxi jet 1200 be too much flow for a fuge? Thanks

The maxi jet will be fine for getting water there but you'll probably want to add a PH for some additional flow in the fuge.
