Refugium

This may sound like a broken record question, but I need some help here. I'm setting up a 55g reef/fish tank and bought a 29 gallon tank to use as the sump/refugium. I bought some acrylic pieces to divide the tank into thirds. One section for my protein skimmer, the middle part I'm not sure exactely what is supposed to be there except algae growth(?) and then the third section to be where the uptake will take place. I also bought 1 1/2" PVC piping, elbows, couplers and a P valve. What size pump would you recommend as well as an easy explanation of how to set it all up. I want all of this done before I even think about going any further and I'm feeling really dumb right now because some of the threads that I'm reading are way above me. I can tell that these people have either been doing this for awhile or else seem to understand the high tech end of all of this. I'm still learning the language of setting up a salt water tank and although I'm really excited about the entire prospect, I don't mind saying I'm a little overwhelmed by my own ignorance. Any simple, straight shot explanation on making this would be a BIG help to me. Thank you in advance.

your middle section should have 1 in miracle mud and 3 in live sand then your macro algae ime 1 use a mag 2 and have the same set-up something thats going to pump about 250 gph. as long as your refug is directly under display. do you have an overflow box?

No I don't and could you please tell me the easiest way to create an overflow box. And thank you all for your help and thanks for the welcome.
