I'm going to DIY a refugium/sump and im interested in what other people did so that i could get some good ideas...

i was thinking...20gal long tank 30x12x12

with 3 sections...almost half will go to the fuge then a set of baffles into were i will keep my skimmer (HOB Aqua C Remora) then another set of baffles which will lead to the return pump...

how does this sound? also what else could i keep in there to further help?

THANKS!

sounds just like what I have, and it works great. I have my skimmer in the first chamber, a 12"x12" section in the middle for the mud and caleurpa, and the two baffles that lead into the third chamber I have some bioballs and a media bag with phosphate remover. I have had no problems in almost a year and my corals and fish are very healthy.

just wondering...i though that the skimmer was suppost to follow after the fuge? but im glad that its working great...did u use the bio balls for air bubbles?

Oh and this is the one I built from a 40g

hey dubbin,

how did you get the glass cut to fit so nicely?

Lowes will cut the glass for free ;)

I put the skimmer in the first chamber, before the fuge, because I want pods to make it up into the tank. Yes, they'll have to go through the return pump but at least they've got a chance to get there. If the skimmer is in with the return, they'll just get blown into the skimmate. Notice how Dwayne's (Dubbin's) refugium overflows into the return pump as well. His return is in the center.

BTW, the 20L with 3 sections is exactly what I have.

dubbin...you out there?

Yes I'm here :)

The sump is very quiet and the main tank is on the other side of the wall.
