Regal Problems ????????

I just got a regal tang he looked alright when I bought him but it seems like he looks worse in my tank his stomach looks very skinny and lumpy and has two spot on his one side I am worried about my other fish what should I do I was reading about garlic extract. and maybe lowering my salinty for the whole tank its a 540 and there are 7 other fish any ideas ????

As you probably know "thin" is a bad sign in many fish ... often a sign that they have not been eating for a prolong period. No magic cure for "thin" ... keeping the fish eating should be your first priority and that's often easier said than done. Some use food soaked in selcon, liquid garlic, etc ... some use enriched live brine shrimp.

Spots are another issue ... might be ich .. if so you should be prepared to QT all of the fish in the tank .. treat for ich (hypo or copper) and leave your ST without fish for 5/6 weeks w/o fish to insure that the ich in the ST die off (ich need a fish to perpetuate their life cycle).

You are not going to be able to lower a tank that big with out some serious work. I wouldn't do it! I would put the tang in QT and treat it there. You might need to experiment a little to find what foods it will eat. I wouldn't panic about the other fish in the tank just yet. If they are healthy they should be able to fight off any disease the Regal might have introduced, just keep an eye on them.
