regugium substrate???

I am making a new sump for my tank and I was wondering what was the best substrate for it. Should I keep it bare, put sand, mud, or a combination of both? What are some of the pros and cons?

ive got BB as well with just some LR rubble but ive been told if you dont have a dsb in your display you should at least have one in the fuge.... i planned on going with a dsb but never got around to it

It would really depend on what your goal is for your sump/fuge. Do you want to decrease nitrates? Grow pods? Plankton? Provide a souce for biominerals? What do you want to accompilsh?
