Remora Pro preskimmer box

I just purchased a preskimmer box for my remora skimmer. I have been told that you can use this for a fuge. Is there any truth to this, and if so, how do I go about it. Thanks, I am only 4 months into this whole deal, so any help possible is great!

Well, I guess you could, but it seems kind of silly to me to so.
I think you could put some reef rubble in there and it would act as a fuge after a fashion, but I wouldn't bother.
Given it's small size, trying put a light and some macro in there wouldn't work very well IMO. You'd be better of with a HOB or undertank refugium.

Good luck getting this piece of junk to work even as a prefilter box. I threw mine away. First off, it is very difficult to fit it over the pump. (BTW, there will be no room for anything else in there. Oh, and reef rubble will clog your pump intake.) Secondly, the slots are inadequate. If you are using the best recommended pump, you can count on it running dry. The slightest drop in your tank's water level will result in inadequate inflow and the box will empty, leaving your pump to run dry until either you notice and get the water flowing again or until it burns out.

If you haven't opened it yet, I'd suggest you return it for a refund.

Thanks for the input guys, I bought the box used off of ebay and I am waiting to get it. Maybe I will try to modify the slots, who knows. Live and learn....

You can try to widen the slots or add more of the same width. Just be sure to used the right tool, so you don't break the acrylic. I had to glue a piece of mine back on.

I was thinking of the rubble in the outflow side... but trying to get the thing on is a PITA. I think the skimmer is great, but the overflow box... leads a lot to be desired. I'm tempted to mod up some PVC and see how that works.
