Remora Protein Skimmer

Hi,

I've had a 55 gallon FOWLER tank up and running without a hitch for 8 months. I would like to add a protien skimmer with the goal of adding inverts and coral to my tank. I have been looking at the Remora Series protien skimmers, more specifically the Remora Pro. Does anyone have an opinion about this skimmer? Other suggestions are welcome, as well.

Here's the skimmer's webpage http://www.proteinskimmer.com/Product Pages/Remora Series.htm
Thanks for any info.

I had one several years back. Noisy and not very effective IME. Are you looking for a HOB skimmer, Do you have a sump?

I have one running in my sump with a mag 3 and it works great imo pulls out some nasty black gunk. I had it HOB of the DT before i added sump with a prefilter box and it was VERY unsightly and did not seem to work as well as it does now in the sump. Can be a lil loud too but it works good for my applications. Dont skimp and get some crappy skimmer sea clone or prism u will just waste your time and money.

I have to agree with the folks that they are just TOO noisy. I'll admit I haven't had one for over 5 years and I only had it for a few months because I just didn't like it. I also had micro bubble problems unless they've fixed that since then...I had to stick foam in the discharge that I had to constantly clean.

And the picture doesn't show you this, but you have to put a big pump dangling in your tank...I didn't like that either. Honestly I gave up on any HOT skimmer because they were either to expensive, or too much trouble. I wound up adding a sump!
