Remora Surface Skimmer Problem (flood)

I purchased the surface skimmer prefilter box for my Aqua C Remora Pro and hooked it up last night. I didn't quite understand how to hook it up to the skimmer at first. The only attachment it has is 3 screws on the left front side which I am assuming is suppose to press against the Mag pump to hold it in place. Well it doesn't. I connected it, watched it for a few minutes and all was well and the box was pulling the slime from the top of the water and sending that to the skimmer. I walked away and went into the other room. Five minutes later I hear a waterfall happening in my living room and come running. The skimmer box had ripped the mag pump off the intake arm going into the skimmer, but the power cord to the pump help the pump at the top of the water not letting it sink to the bottom of the tank. Therefore the pump was sucking in water and shooting it straight up into the air and out onto the back wall of my living room. About 4 gallons had gone airborne and onto my wall and floor before I unplugged the skimmer.

How does everyone have this prefilter box attached to the Remora? I have tried several times but cannot get it to stay in place with only those 3 builtin screws. I have read good reviews about this box and the Remora skimmers, but it's too cheaply built IMO for the money I paid for it. Is there a mod for this skimmer or am I missing something completely?!?

i have the same skimmer and also bought the prefilter box for it. The box is cheap for what you pay but it works wonders for keepig surface skum off the top.
i am using a maxi-jet 900 in mine and the screws work to hold it inplace. You might want to purchase a mj900, think they are like 20 bucks at marine depot.
i see what you are saying though, but you are not missing any parts..

try the MJ900, it works for me...for the last 5 months with no problems.

hope that helped

Why would you put an MJ900 on a Remora Pro??

Put a couple of holes in the back of it, and place some suction cups in those holes. Siip the box back up around the pump.. tighten the screws.. in addition, stick the suction cups to the tank glass

i actually have a remora with a maxijet 1200 and i have the surface skimmer box and it doesn't work well at all for me. I added more slits on the intake side and added some suction cups to the back. i still have surface skum. what am i doing wrong? also, i don't have auto top off

I have this skimmer w/ the preskimmer and it works great, from what I have read here its one of the best HOB skimmers out there, from what it sounds like is that you need something to tighten the skimmer intake to the pump.

I've had the Remora Pro with the filter box for about six months. I have the Mag Drive 3 350gph and the box does attach with the screw to the pump. Not as good as I like, but I am able to set it once and keep it level up against the rim of the tank. Would also like to see if anyone has modified the box to be self attaching to the tank, it sure would make cleaning the pump easier.
