Remote DSB with thin layer in tank.

Anything wrong with keeping a very thin layer of course sand for asthetic purposes while having a remote DSB (bucket method) for denitrifaction?

No, although IMO it is the worst of both worlds: (1) No DBS, and (2) Sand that will blow around in the current and attract algae.

Somthing that you could do is mix the sand with some concrete or glue (not sure exactly how to do this, you could search) and making a solid base that looks like it is sand, but really is just one big mass. Then you could have serious flow without worrying about sandstorms.

If you have a sump / refugium setup then you can put a DSB and pile of LR rubble in there to help. You could probably go easier on the sand in the tank, but ReefEze is right. You will blow the sand in the tank all over the pace and have bare spots if you go to thin.

eze is describing a faux sandbed, pretty much cover the bottom in epoxy, sprinkle on sand, so you see a sandy bottom, but it is solid

I have 6" in my fuge and about an inch (average) in the display. The display sand does blow around and creates some dunes and some bare spots that expose the HDPE sheet I have under everything. But, the bare spots are mostly in back and are currently becoming covered in coralline. ReefEze says it's the worst of both worlds, but I think it's the best. JMO.
