Remote Flash trigger

I am looking for a cheap but decent remote flash trigger so I can fire this shoe style flash I picked up. I see a TON of them but not sure which one I need, and which ones are junk. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Camera is Canon XSi and flash is Vivitar 283 (old school style).

Also can anybody give me some feedback on that flash? It was free so I really can't complain... but is it any good?
