Remote sump to garage (same level as house)

Hi Everyone,

Is it possible to remote plumb a DT from the house and have sump in the garage if the house and garage are all the same level ?

Im planning my new tank 10x3x2 and im deciding whehter to have everything underneath the tank or if i can have in garage etc , I dont have in wall option unfortunately , the wife didnt like me taking away another room , but hey im getting my dream tank so i can work with that

Any idea or input is appreciated

My tank is plumbed through the wall to my utility room...same level. If you can do it, DO IT. Anything you can do to make maintenance easier will make the hobby so much more enjoyable. My water changes take me about 10 minutes. I just turn off my return, let sump fill up and then I drain it out the door. When that is finished, I open a valve from my saltwater storage tank and refill my sump. To have the room to work without killing yourself by trying to access everything jammed in your stand makes the hobby very very nice. I cant stress it enough.
Many people get out of the hobby because maintenance becomes a chore and their tank suffers.

Yeah i agree i want to make water changes as easy as possible

I was thinking if i could get the plumbing for return and drain from location of tank and into garage through the pad then i should do it , im just not sure it would work as the water would need to go down through pad then about 15 metres to garage then up and into sump etc , so i thought maybe the height at the end would be a issue

As long as your sump is below your main drain from your tank the water will still travel up if it needs to. My main overflow in my tank is probably about 6 feet from floor, the water drains down from tank goes through the wall and then hits a 90 elbow and travels up about 15 inches, hits another 90 elbow to my sump. It works perfectly.

Just want to clarify that as long as the water that would travel up does not go above the main drain your good. It's just gravity.

The other issue with a garage sump is heat, depending on your garage they can get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. From a maintenance standpoint a garage sump is great!

Well i was thinking i would need to put a split system AC in the garage as it can hit 50c (Celsius) in summer in the garage no worries otherwise lol ,

The DT would be fairly high off the ground so water would never go above the drain so seems this would be doable , ill check on the builder for some more emails

I would like to know if you have any updates.

I built a system with the sump in the garage. I had to run two lines from the tank to the sump and back but once I did that the water lines match. Then I simply pumped water uphill to get back to the tank. This idea worked for years. I added several additional items like a dump bucket style scrubber and a plankton tower. I simply had to plan and make adjustments. I am currently adding an ATO reservoir below the sump and a refugium on the other side of the garage.

I am very interested in this as I am doing a sump in the room directly behind my dt, looking for ideas, plumbing etc...
