What's the best way to natrually get rid of macro algae in your display aquarium paticularly grape curlerpa? It's out competing my zoos and musrooms.

my brother put it in his display tank when i advised him not to, now he can't get rid of the stuff. he has mexican turbos that eat up all his other algae but wont touch caulerpa. don't know what to tell you. maybe someone else has experience w/ caulerpa removal.

just remove it by hand it's not that hard. You may have to do it a few times,But it will greatly reduce it if not eminate it after about 3 removals

Did you actually remove it yourself? It's surprisingly difficult to remove! I struggled for 2 months with a patch smaller than a penny.

isn't it really difficult when the plant has rooted into the rock? only solution i had when i had bryopsis growing on my live rock was to use a flame thrower and burn the **** out of the rock. no more bryopsis

Exactly - when its fastened to the rock you can remove the stem, but then it sprouts again (and again, and again). The only thing that worked was to move some other algae (Ulva) over that spot and let it out outcompete the root stumps.

I made the mistake of putting some in my display tank......it overtook the tank! Just this past weekend I took each rock out and picked it off, there are still some small pieces remaining which I hope doesn't grow too fast and can be kept under control.....we have a sea hare which does eat the macro, so I hope he keeps what is left under control.

Good Luck

tizme, what type of sea hare eats your macro algea? Just the regular rabbit ear looking ones?

As far as removing grape calurpa my foxface loves the stuff.

Put in different macros to compeat with it. Mine all died when I put in some hammer head macro+Kelp. +took a big harvest of the grape. I can't keep nitrate in tank at all. Maybe that is why it died. All I know is It is hard for me to grow..It keeps melting LOL
READ MY LIPS........ GET MORE MACROS Best tip is warfare
don't burn your rocks use nature for your causes..
