Does anyone have experience removing scratches from glass?

If so, what did you do and what was the result?

My current tank has a bunch of very fine scratches that I would like to attempt to remove before setting it up. I first need to determine the best method and what equipment will be required. I'm hoping a regular drill will be sufficient. If not, I can pick up a cheap electric disc sander from HF.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, call this guy name Eric. He is the owner of Ben Davids Glass.
Look him up on the phonebook or call 916-247-9773.
I do know he can buff out scratches on windsheild and stuff.
He charges about $60/HR. Good luck.

Yes, I have done it. It is a very cumbersome process. You need fine grit sandpaper on a sanding wheel/grinder that you use wet, followed by cerium oxide on a rotary buffing pad (electric drill). I should have all of this left. Plan on spending about 1 hour per 2-3 inches of scratches. If the scratch is deep (i.e. you can feel your fingernail go into the scratch, rather than just feel a light abrasion) you probably will not get it out as you will need to remove a fair quantity of glass from the tank and I would be concerned about weakening the glass.
