remove xenia from rock

If you can remove the rock start at the edge and scrape it away from the rock it will peel back like a ...a...well...kinda like a pancake.

You can rip it off but it will be more likely to grow back that way...get ready for your fingers to tingle,lol...remember to wash your hands afterwards with NON bacterial soap....

Good question....in our tanks we are trying to setup a bacteria friendly environment...ie..the bacteria that eats the ammonia, nitrite, and other benificial bacteria for our fishies....the antibacterial soap kills those bacteria, can kill our corals and our fish. We know a gentleman that failed to clean under his nails before entering his tank and he killed everything...scraped under his nails and collected almost a gram of built up soap scum from antibacterial soap..

We found the best thing to use is ivory bar soap..unscented...just raw ivory its 99 44/100% pure soap...wont hurt anything in the tank...

77railer, interesting about the ivory soap. Now if I still have some of it in my hands, will it hurt the tank or are you saying that its perfectly safe?

well our body is like a sponge...the soak everything up..we can use anti-bacterial soap provided that we wait at least a day before entering are tank and make absolutely sure there is nun under our nails....

As far as ivory....I would make sure you rinse rinse rinse...and make sure you clean under your nails...small amounts wont hurt if its on ya..just dont lather up and give em a bubble bath,lol....

and from what I have read..certian fish/corals have different immunities to the toxins we introduce....not trying to scare us...just trying to help keep things alive

thanks for the tidbits.

Lately I just put my hand under cool/warm water and just scrub my hands and arms really well for like 2 + mins before sticking my hands in the tank. Never used soap before.

You know what? Just to be safe, I use gloves that I bought from "the filter guys" .

They go all the way up to the shoulder and are thin enough so you can feel what you are doing, but not so thin that water leaks in or get cut/rips in them from your rock.

Really cheap too. I have been using one over and over for the past few days. I just rinse it off really well after and re-use if I need to get into the tank to pick up a frag that got knocked over.

Thanks for that info. I had no idea that AB soap could do that.
Very interesting things we don't think about. Wow!
