Removing Pulsing Xenia from Rock

How do you remove a Xenia Coral from a rock. I need to place it in another tank, but can't move the rock its on, so I need to take it off.

Do you know how?

just take a razor and scrape it off. or cut it near the base with sissors. then either use a toothpick to secure it to the new rock or just leave it sitting on the rock and it will attach in a day or two.

Try cutting it off but the tiny bits of flesh will sprout new xenia( my own experience). Or better yet, just turn the rock over. The xenia will eventually melt away because they need light.

clip off at base with scissors and suck up the cut piece with a turkey baster. you can fasten to another rock with a rubberband over the base works fine or bridal vale (sp) wrapped over xenia and around rock. I havnt tried the toothpick yet , but hear a lot of people do .

just to let you know, i just cut off a portion of xenia from my rock and moved it to a piece of live rock rubble (just took the cut portion and stabbed through it with a toothpick into a hole till it was secure). When I started cutting the xenia with my knife, it shrunk up pretty quickly and this white slimey smoky stuff went everywhere, but that cleared up pretty quickly once the cut piece was removed. When I took the clump of xenia out of the water it seemed like a gross mess, but when placed back in with the toothpick/rubble attached, it seemed to shape back up. Right now its still pretty ****ed, but Ill keep you updated as to how the transfer went. hope that helps

PS - Make sure your knife is sharp!

use a wooden skewer if you know what that is, works well for me as i have to prune my xenia's. as well it will remove its base as well if you dont get it all it will grow another stalk and so on.

How do you get it off the rock and keep it from growing back. My xenia is like a weed.

I've used a propane blow torch before, but missed a couple of peices. They grew back with a vengence.

Any chemical means???? possibly paint that portion of rock with bleach?

yup, so the transfer seems to be working good so far...... xenia that i removed is still alive and seems to be picking up in health. As for the base where i didnt quite get it all.... small stalks are forming already. Haha, so funny how nature works. But ya, everything has worked great so far the toothpick method has worked like a charm!
