What's the best/safest way to remove ricordias from rock? I have a bubble algae break out and am going to cure all of my rock(sucks) but the rics are dug in like a texas tic and I don't know the best way to get them off....

Have you considered picking up a few mithrax crabs? It might be easier to include them in the tank than breaking everything down. I've heard the reds mow through bubble algae but I've only ever had emeralds, myself.

I did post recently that I have an emerald crab that I'd trade for a frag. I dont have any ricordia either. :) Actually, it you really needed this guy to take care of the bubble algae, I'd let you have him.

dang, sucks to kill the rock. i had some bubble algae when i first started, but the emeralds wiped it right out. sure you don't wanna just stick a couple more in there? might be worth it rather than possibly killing a ric...

You could always buy up a bunch of emerals crabs from local stores and they would probably give you store credit for them after they took care of the problem. They're only about $5 each, and winding up with about $50 in store credit might be better than killing your live rock.

i agree but that's just a temporary fix. I want it gone for good.

I'd cut the base and a bit of the LR with a diamond wheel dremel. If done carefully the ricordea won't even know it happened and easy to glue back on once the algae problem is resolved.

i still vote for the emeralds. its been a permanent fix in my tank. i didn't have a ton to start, but one they wiped it out it either hasn't been back, or if it starts to come back they nip it in the bubble.
