How do I or can I remove scratches from the inside of my glass tank? Can I take it to a glass shop and have it buffed out? also if they use some kinda compound can I just clean the tank out good with bleach? this was supposed to be my Display (reef & inverts) Thanks in advance for any information.

A tank is probably the cheapest item in this hobby.

If it's empty, Buy a new tank!

If it's 180G+ tank, get someone to replace the pane that's scratched.

There's NOTHING more aggrivating in this hobby than looking at $2000 to 10,000+ worth of stuff through glass that you couldn't be bothered to replace when the tank was empty

Company named Eastwood Product in Pa makes a kit for auto glass. I HAve used it several times to remove wiper scratches on older windshields for the classic cars we handle. Works good takes a good amount of time and elbow grease. on some of the deeper scratches we ed up using a sandpaper to lessen them to a general haze and then buff to a finish. Again alot of effort but when youare talking some of these windshields with the correct build codes are virtually impossible to get or it is an original unmolested"survivor"vehicle it is very important to retain the authenticity of the car.

Cerium oxide works fine. It's what a glass dealer would use and what I've used on my old car's windshield. However, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's too deep to buff out without excessive effort (I'm talking hours and hours) and possibly significant optical distortion (which would probably make things worse than they are). In that case, you'd be best to either 1) accept and tolerate the scratch; 2) replace the pane; or 3) replace the aquarium.

Time..........effort.........& personal labor is about all I have left to work with, I plan to do a fingernail check today to see if they catch my nail..

Then I guess I could get this done and over with fast, I plan to drill it for overflows atleast if I do that first and its tempered I didnt waste my time and energy removing the scratches!! its a perfecto 125 built in 2000 how could I findout ifits tempered or not? besides drilling it. It has a stcket in the bottom that says tempered glass..... most of the time its just the bottom of the tank though. How can I contact perfecto and find out about the other glass besides bottom.

no glass kit!

no glass kit!

I am telling you with much experience! Like the one mentioned above with hours and hours of buffing. only to make it look like he mentioned "with some distortion of the glass" when you look at it in certain ways!
DO NOT GET NO GLASS POLISHING KIT! Get a new pain of glass and the right RTV silicon to replace it!
I strated a project where I got a good (great) deal on a tank. The tank was 24tall 41deep and 58long for 400 bucks couldnt go wrong. Just needed little cleaning up it looked like. Salt creep on the glass it looked like, no biggy. When I got it home to clean. I used every cemical and compond known to man to clean this salt creep off the tank! With nothing working, But not looking to bad I could still see where it like has etched itself into the glass(the salt creep). Plus from the tank being used it had its share of fine scratches too. I started researching glass polishing kits and went with one called JANVIL I think it was. The kit was about $150 shipped to get it and was supposed to remove fine sctrathes? Hook up to a high rpm drill. Should have just put the product in a high rpm tiolet! To make a long project with this product short....DONT USE IT AND WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT! The new piece of glass I ended putting on it was only $92 for 3/8 tempered glass and it was 24x58 inches.
look at my project it might be helpful....MY BIULD
Note the first tank you see is the tank I wasnt happy with. The pains of glass in the rest of the pics...is what I suggest you do!
Forgive me for the link to my build, this isnt me trying to highjack your post just thought some things mentioned might help.
Good luck in your decision, and like I kept telling myself through the build...
DID I ALWAYS DREAM OF HAVING SCRATCHES ON MY DREAM TANK??????   :(
