removing tuxedo urchin's camouflage

I just got the urchin but it's carrying a lot of camouflage. Can I gently pull those off without hurting it?

I just leave it on mine, I have 3 in the reef.

yes you can gently pull it off or just leave it..
Part of the fun of those types of urchins IMO is seeing what they carry around..
Mine will grab floating thermometers, zoas, bivalves, bubble algae, small shells and rocks,etc...

I see some algae on the debris, so didn't want those in my tank.

mine had a huge hunk of algae recently. I took it out when he let go of it.

LOL, I removed his original debris it carried but it found some more. Interesting creature!
