Canister filters are more for freshwater tanks. If you use them on a SW tank with the bio-balls and sponges, they become nitrate factories. It's ok to use them with carbon media ONLY, and for flow, but microbubbles can be a problem. Do you have a protein skimmer? If not, you could sell the canister filter, and buy an Aqua C Remora with the surface prefilter add on, which acts as a bubble trap.
