Replace filter sock and this happens

Evrytime I change my filter sock I have to turn off skimmer for probably
a day because if i dont turn off skimmer the water in the skimmer shoots all the way up to the top of skimmer and overflows.

if i wait a day and turn skimmer on,the water level in the skimmer is where it needs to be to produce skimmate.

anyone have any ideas why this occurs?

or what i can do to just change filter sock and not worry about skimmer overflowing.

Normal.. Chemicals on the filter sock change the surface tension of the water and cause skimmers to overflow..

This is with new socks right? I rinse new filter socks under tap water for a few minutes just to get everything out of it and my skimmer is fine.

I've never had this issue with ones that I clean the washing machine

What machine? What goes into the machine to "clean"..

Yep...normal.. There is always some residual soap,etc...

Run the washer thru a cycle with nothing in it. No soap no towel, no clothes, nothing. Then do the socks. When washing socks run a second rinse or wash them a second time with no bleach ect...
