Its been about a year now since my tank has been up and running. I thought its time to change the bulbs. Im not going with a replacement hood or anything, I just want some new bulbs. Any suggestions? Are there different brands or places to get them from? Whats the best thing for my tank without mods. I would do a mod if it was cheap, but Im saving money for a 58-75 tank, so this will be sold when that happens.

Thanks

When I swapped out my bulbs I went with Coralife. One 03 Actinic and one 10k. They popped right in. it looked a little purple but after burn in it looks great. Some pics on my website of my 24 gallon. I eventually bought the dual ballast and run each bulb independant. Works out nice.

When we did my 12 yr old sons we went with the same 50/50 bulbs for replacement although they offered other bulbs like Spiffyguy put in. My son was able to trade some frags even swap to the LFS for the bulbs. Remember to stagger them when replacing them. Its not mandatory but since they are over a yr old the new ones will be brighter again and may "shock" the corals a little bit. We waited about a month apart when changing them out

I just happen to have the old one sitting here and its a 4 pin straight across configuration. Whole assembly is 12" long for the 12g JBJ

I plan on swapping mine out every 9-12 months. I don't have many corals but they ddin't seem to mind the swap. I did both bulbs last time. From 50/50s to the 03 and 10k. Seemed to work well.

i recommend you use the same combonation of bulbs that it came with, 2 50/50's. I replaced mine with a 10k and 03 actinic and it looked much worse (yellowish in back and weird purple up front, depending which order you place the bulbs). I returned the bulbs and went with 2 50/50's, much whiter coolish blue looking.
