Replacement UV Shield

Question:

What happens to UV shield when fans on MH unit go out?

Answer:

You get really cool looking bowl shaped depressions directly beneath the bulbs.

Now, how do I get the dang things out of the fixture now that they are no longer flat and where do I get a replacement?

Isn't this whole reef hobby thing fun?

Rob, mine is a glass uv shield so I have no idea other than to cut it out.

What kind of glass would I need to replace it with? Obviously something cut to the right size but do I need special glass? Or does it need to be at least __" thick, etc.?

I believe that I've read that normal glass provides enough UV filtration for use with MH lighting. You can buy UV glass but it is pretty expensive.

Either way you will need to get tempered glass. I would think that 1/8" would do the job.
