Replacing Bio Balls with LR

My only question is, without a light source, will the LR be useful as a replacement to the bio balls? With the stock hook on the BC, there's no way to attach any lighting to that compartment.

I just want to make sure my live rock doesn't become dead rock!

It will do fine with out light, the light is just to grow macro algae.

Thanks Cope, I guess I should've been a bit more specific in my questiion. I knew the light needed to be present for the macro algae to grow.

I guess I'm wondering if the LR will be OK without the presence of macro algae with it because of the lack of light.
