Replacing noisy fans on JBJ 28 gal

I have been looking for information on replacing the noisy fans on my JBJ 28 gal. and could find minimal help. So I decided to take a chance and do it myself, and I am not handy.

I found some really quite fans from the Coolerguys.com Scythe 50 mm X 10 mm Silent Mini Kaze Fan SY501012m. Total cost with shipping for two fans was $19.08. IMOP they are really quite.

The steps to replace are as follows:

Remove hood and carefully remove all the screws holding the clear cover down

Carefully lift clear cover and glass

Unscrew the first fan, the one close to the plugs, and unplug and replace with new fan. it is plug compatible. The cables on the original fans are long and often wrapped around other items. Taking your time and there will be no problem. The cable on the replacement fan will reach this plug.

The second fan can now be removed BUT the replacement fan cables will not be long enough, Cut the cables on the both the new and old fans and slice together. This is a really simple task. I retained the plug from the old and spliced the new fan to long cable from the old fan.

Plug in light to be sure both fans are working correctly.

Replace clear cover and replace all screws.

Return to top of tank and you are done.

I hope this helps someone.
