Replacing the T5's vs. new lights

if I currently have 2 actinics and 2 10k's is the 1x actinic, 2x aquablue and 1x 10k going to put out as much par as what I have ( I mean comparing the two options if both were new bulbs and both the same type of bulb)?

Also, what will that look like (more blue, less blue) - compared to what I have now?

THANKS

also, diyreef.com doesn't have 10k's.... They have a 6000k in the geismemann's and 11000k aquablue in either the geisemanns or the ati's..

What about 3 aquablues and 1 pure actinic?
Or 2 aquablues 1 actinic, 1 6000k?

I'm looking for as much blue as I have now with the maximum possible par

THANKS

I called reef geek and talked to Greg Morgan. I told him what size tank I had and how many bulbs my fixture had and he came up with my bulb selection. It was geisemann and ATI attinic + and a pro color and others I cant remember but you should email him.

what's the main difference between the pure actinics and the actinic plus's for the geisemanns?

i'd like to know this also....

just a little different spectrum. the actinics are all blue spectrum and the actinic + are blue and a little toward the red side of the spectrum. If you look up the bulbs on google one of the sites show the spectrum chart for each bulb. I have ATI 3 pure actinic and 1 actinic +, 1 pro color, 1 420 nm actinic, geisemann 3 10k and a 6500k I think some of the bulbs are hard to read. Six of the bulbs are 5' and 4 are 4'

With a 4 bulb setup I wouldn't recommend the pro-color. I didn't notice a large increase in color for the amount of PAR that is sacrificed. The ATi aquablue is actually pretty white, in my opinion.

Here's an example, at the time I believe I was running
ATI aquablue special
current 10k
Giesmann actinic+
current 10k

I think the colors looks great without sacrificing PAR and getting a "deep water" blue tint.

For comparison, I'm pretty sure from right to left these are
ATi aquablue special
Giesmann actinic
Procolor
Current actinic
current 10k

It really sucks deciding on a bulb combination.... I know how it feels. I went through TONS of combinations before I would one I like. I learned I'm a huge ATI fan for actinics, and geismann for 10k. There used to be a post where GrimReefer posted all the PAR measurements, but I'm having trouble finding the bookmark....

I would recommend this combination

Front to Back

ATI Blue +
UVL Super Actinic
UVL AquaSun
ATI Blue +

Thanks,

you think that will be enough par compared to what I have now?

Right now I have the standard 2 10k's and 2 actinics.....
I think they're slimpaq or current

if you think it's comparable or more par... that sounds pretty cool

That setup will be more PAR. ATI vs. Slimpaq 10k is almost ~+85 PAR per lamp. That's like what... 24%ish more? And the Blue Plus is 59 more... that's like 19%? So just with this example, you'd be up 288 PAR total. That's like running another slimpaq :)

I just ordered 2x ATI Aquablue special, 1x ATi Aquablue Plus, and 1x ATI Procolor from diyreef.com

take a look at figiblue's lights halfway down the page. From what I've read the lamps I ordered are about as close to that look that you can get in a 4 lamp setup. (according to GrimReefer and figiblue)

Haha, and that's the toughest part. Can't go wrong with ATI, Giesemann, or UVL. This is one of the few things in this hobby in which there are so many options it enough to MAKE YOUR HEAD SPIN!

Talk about a day and night difference from MH lamp shopping... "Should I get the 20k XM or the 14k XM?" Wow...

That would be enough PAR to keep anything in the tank. Bellow is pretty much the same thing as I suggested to you but x2 over my 120 running on ICECAP 660's. Picture is from January 09.

after a bunch of research, I've decided to go with the same 4 bulbs.... hopefully it looks great!
Definetly a lot more par than my previous set up - 1200 vs. 1050 total (plus one of my previous actinics was wayyyy old so I was probably putting out only like 900, even when the other 3 were new )
Plus it should be better color and flourescence with that bulb comobo.... looking forward to seeing it in action....

Cool, I bet it will look excellent. I just got my bulbs in today so I'll have them burning tomorrow, can't wait!
