Required pumps for a 180

Roger,

What pumps would you recommend for a 180 gallon mixed reef? I'd say the emphasis would be on SPS but there will be a hammer or two as well as a few frogspawns in there.

I was looking at either a pair of 6000's or 6100's and a 7095 controller.

Thanks for your response!

I would go with the 6000's unless you can build a rock shelter for any long polyped LPS like hammers, with the strong flow of the 6100's they won't open very well. The other option is to place them at a far end under a 6100 so they are getting the most diffuse flow from the pump on the opposite end and they are under the flow of the pump nearest them.

Thanks Roger.

Do you have a link to the devices that will turn a 6000 in to a 6100 if I decide later to upgrade the pumps?

Thanks again!

Ryan

I have two 6100 in my 180 with a hammer and I did exactly what roger suggested placed the hammer under the pump and it fine, the 6100 have some mega flow if any lps is in its direct stream its over.

Thanks guys! I did pick up two 6000's and a 7095. When I get the 180 I will probably buy the two transformers. Right now the 6000's offer nice flow for the 90!

Thanks again!

Roger,

I have an additional question for you...

when the lights are off the nighttime mode is supposed to start. The moonlight is on but the pumps are still cycling at the preset power levels. Shouldn't they drop and/or not cycle?

Thanks

They should switch to the bottom power knobs for the night provided the night mode option is selected and the photocell is in darkness.

Curiously, I have my moonlight mounted on my tank which is opened topped. It works really well, and the moonlight will not shutoff with low levels of ambient daylight. My VHO bulbs have to fire up in order to shut off the moonlight, which is 11:00 AM.
