Rescued my Maroon Clown!

Earlier today I walked over to my 55 gallon and noticed something on the floor. I looked at it and noticed it was my Maroon clown which seemed to be dead!! He was almost brown in color and I thought for sure he was dead.

So I quickly picked him up and placed him in my sump, and as I did I noticed his fins twitching a little, so I decided to get an air pump I had and placed it in the sump to get some more oxygen in the water. After a few minutes he started gasping for air at the surface, then after a few more minutes he was swimming around but running into the walls and stuff. So I left him in there for probably 15 minutes. After that he was swimming around perfectly!!! So after a few minutes I placed him into my display were he hid behind some rocks, still swimming but a little shaken up.

The lights are off now, But I can see that he is still alive :)

I'm not sure how many minutes he was there, but I was just really lucky to happen to walk up right then, and especially lucky that I didn't step on him. Not to mention the top of the tank is like 5ft high, that's a big jump.

Do you guys have any stories of you saving your fish?

Good save! I recently rescued my red flame hawkfish on the floor, gasping for air. It took about 15 minutes for him to recuperate in a covered cube. Now he's back in the 40G tank (now with a cover) and as healthy as ever. My clown did not have such luck as he decided to somehow jump into the back chamber of the cube, which I discovered too late.

Glad you saw and saved him! Check out Bulk Reef Supply for their netting. They have a nice video how to make that to cover the tank.

Yeah I was surprised I thought for sure he was a goner! Thanks for the suggestion aleonn, Ill get some of that.

cover it up, but there must be some other reason that make them jump out. Clowns are not known for jumping out like wrasses.

Back when I first started keeping aquariums I had a 40 with some cichlids, including 2 oscars. On 2 seperate occasions I came in from work to one of the 2 lying on the ground. The first time it was already on the ground but you could tell he hadn't been there long, put him back and he was fine. Second time I had just opened the door and heard a big splash. I saw him jump out onto the floor whenever the door opened. I put him back in and he was fine as well. This happened within a few weeks of each other and never again. These fish both lived for about 6 years until I let my mother and father in law have the tank and fish and after 6 months they were both dead. They were the first 2 fish I had ever bought and I kept them alive through about 10 tank moves, including into there final home that I had them in, a 180 which has since been turned into my SW tank.

Yeah but sadly today he isn't looking too good. I decided to put him back into my sump since there is nothing else in it but him. Hes trying to swim, but it looks like he might die :/ Hopefully keeping him in there will help.

Yes parameters are all good also enough oxygen.

I just looked and he is still swimming around, but it just seems like he can't swim as good as he needs to. Like he will swim fine every now and then, but a lot of the time he is swimming like straight up and down.

What do you think the best approach to this would be? Should I put him in a bucket again with a air stone, or is the sump fine? Also I doubt it, but is there any kind of medication or something I could be supplementing for him?

IT would seem leaving him be is the best approach now. Its clear you've given him every advantage so only time will tell now. I say leave well enough alone.
