Reseeding the ocean

in the grand scheme of things the main difference between an alien speices and a native one seems to be very similar to the difference between a plant ina garden in a weed. IE, species get spread around and they die out, the alien part is a new species moving into a place where WE don't want it. That being said, yes it's sad to see some species go and we should certainly avoid it if possible. but by the same token lets focus on conservation, not preservation. human attachment casues more problems than it fixes. if half the acropora species on earth were wiped out during a catastrophe wouldn't it be wise to reseed with similar non native species for lack of anything better?

im not trying to get in an argument either....i hope i didnt offed you .....but i was trying to make the point that even if its says it has been aquacultured it doesnt always mean that it hasnt been raised in the ocean ....i agree it is kinda a misleading term though

No you havent offended me :D ive just seen too many threads stray from the discussion over people fighting over stupid things. I agree with you also that aquacultured is a very broad term and most companies use it to make you think your somehow helping out when it is still just a frag cut off a wild colony. "Tank-raised" is a much better term but I get lazy and just end up calling everything aquacultured.

Every coral in the industry is essentially a frag cut from a wild colony. I think the new terms they are giving them now so they are not misleading are:

Maricultured - grown in ocean
Aquacultured - grown in captivity
Wild - well...I hope I don't have to finish this for anyone

It does get confusing, though
:D

doc beat me to it!!maricultured =raised in the ocean.
i gotta agree that walt is doing the ocean more good than bad!if i remember right walt only has so much area of ocean to work with and thats why they have areas around were they collect that are no collect areas so fish, corals, inverts can reproduce in these areas and in the long run there are always gonna have animals to work with!just my 2 cents!whats up charlie long time no see/hear.
