Resetting quarantine tank?

So, I had a purple firefish in quarantine; Monday I started the cupramien treatment and yesterday he got the second dose. He was doing great, eating, happy - today I came home and found him on the floor. Yea there was an eggcrate lid; he musta had some good aim.

So - I'd like to get a fish started in quarantien so that when my DT's fallow period is up, I could potentially get a fish right into the DT. What do I do to clean up the qtank? Do I need to purchase the cupramine absorber? Or should I just empty the tank and let it dry out? Bleach?

All it has is some PVC pipes and an Aquaclear hangon for a sponge. The sponge'll be thrown out and replaced with one from my DT.

Thanks all!

My QT fish are always treated with copper for at least 3 weeks before they go in the DT. Empty the tank if you want and replace with 3/4 DT water & 1/4 freshly made. throw in the sponge from the DT and your good.

My 2 cents

Ah, awesome. Would it be terrible to just leave the tank set up as is? Do a 50% water change to lower the amount of copper, so that I can bring it up gradually once I intro the new fish? I suppose leaching isn't an issue so much.

Or should I get all new water in there? I was doing water changes from the DT. (DT -> QT - > Toss into garden =) ).

Lisa- you can leave the tank set up as is but just run the carbon. I would get the Copper out completely and then, once you put in another fish, you can start over with the dosing without chancing an overdose. Typically i will do a 25-50% water change, run carbon for 48 hours, and put new foam in the filter and that is it.

Perfect, that is exactly the info I needed. The tank is fishless so I'm leaving the water until I have my RO/DI unit up and running, hopefully Sunday. Then I can make the necessary water and start thinking what to put into quarantine. =)
