i have a mixed group of anthias, 2 carberryi, 2 resplendent, 2 sunset

all get along great no problems, have had them for a few months
all healthy all eating like pigs

the smaller resplendent has developed an eye infection of some sort in the last week. it's hard to explain but the eye looks like it's eroding away. she's hiding now so i can't take a picture, just went into hiding this morning it seems

is there anything i can do? has anyone seen this?

The only new addition has been a submale lineatus wrasse 2 weeks ago from liveaquaria

the lineatus has a white spot on his eye and has went into hiding now. the resplendent anthia is on her last leg

PLEASE advise a treatment so i don't have my entire tank wiped out

I freshwater dipped the anthia and DID NOT notice any flukes

water conditions are pristine

0 nitrates, 0 phosphates, running carbon, gfo, sro 2000 skimmer, ect ect

I had a resplendant anthias with popeye and I could not catch it out of the tank for treatment. It looked a lot like yours now. The eye eventually fell off and the fish has been living with one eye for about 4 months now...poor little guy. He hides more than before, but eats well and seems ok. Good luck.

The problem with "popeye" is that it is a "sign" of a disease/trauma, not a particular disease itself. Popeye can be caused by bacterial, viral, or fungal infection; or trauma. Playing the odds, its likely bacterial in origin, so try a broad-spectrum antibiotic like ciprofloxicin or erythromycin, administered in a hospital tank setting. You mentioned a "white spot" on the fish's eye (which I can't see)- this could an indication of a fungal infection, which would best be treated with Griseofulvin (Fungus-Pro) or formalin-green. These drugs are not reef safe so please use a hospital tank if you decide to treat.

Good luck, Scott
