I have some fish (maroon clown, clown tang, 2 chromis) in a low salinity 10 gallon tank at 1.009...It has been just about 1 month. Most of the fishes appear to be stress free... I had a bout with high nitrites that I had to solve... seaweed appeared to drive it up through the roof... been doing frequent water changes to keep the nitrates in check... currently 10pp ... ammonia and nitrites are at 0... I am concerned about my maroon clown fish... he wasn't doing this until this the whole time he was in the tank but he is propping himself against the opening of a PVC pipe and the tank wall and just sitting still...he was doing this when I had high nitrite readings but then stopped when I changed the water out... he has now returned to this behavior even after the water changes and the tests reading 0; he also has what I thought were scales coming off near his left gill...but might appear to be some white tissue from his gill ? it doesn't appear to be coming from inside the gill flap but rather the white stripe area in front of the gill. He is not breathing faster than normal at all but just stays still, at least until I get close to the tank and he will come out for the time I am there. He will come to feed as well. I am relatively new to the hobby, just over a year. This same fish has been through recovery before from being pumbled by a another maroon clown, when I had him in medicine for torn fins and such, he would do this same behavior, I didn't think much of it as I didn't know much and thought it was normal for a clown as I had seen an occellaris swim weirdly before. I am not sure if he needs help but do not know. Opinions on helping the fish are welcome, thanks.
