I had a cyano outbreak, had finally to treat with chemi-clean. And my favorite invert, Hilda, was battling valiantly with the slime when last seen---near the montipora frag. She vanished, and several intervening days of clean tank and perfect water turned up no Hilda. I finally (sigh) gave up, and concluded she'd gone to conch heaven somewhere in the chemical onslaught.
So I got Herman, a Tongan Fighting Conch, who's a bit different...but, oh, well...
Herman hadn't been in the tank five minutes before the sand near the montipora heaved up and here came Hilda.
I think she'd been hiding in despair and dozed off until the pheromones of another conch hit the water.
Hilda's back, and moving like greased lightning (for a conch) toward Herman, did a circle around him, and lit out again on her own conch-ish business.
She's little, next to Herman, but she's still the number one conch.
