Return or closed loop manifold

I'm going to go pickup some muriatic acid today, and wanted to clean my 100 gallon sump, skimmer, and pumps. Is there anything that should not go in the acid?

Your body parts. :D

I've thrown in mag pumps, seio's, maxijets, misc. pvc parts, that's all I can think of right now. I did throw in a piece of metal that was greased up from the garage and it pitted up. I'm not sure if it was aluminum or ??

Don't take the brown acid.... at least that is what I have heard...

Muriatic Acid Again!

Muriatic Acid Again!

Was going to fill the sump about about 3/4 the way to clean it up along with some pumps not in use at this time.

2 Questions

You say you use 3:1 Water:Acid Should I use that much in the sump? 60-75 gallons of water?

Can I get an old salt bucket and just keep 5gallons on hand when I'm done instead of pouring it out every time? Then use a different bucket to clean them off in?

On a large volume don't go anywhere near that strong. I would just use around 2-4 gallons total and allow more cleaning time. Then if for some reason it was too weak to clean, add another, and so on. It would cost a lot of money just to clean it with 25 gallons of acid! Ask Clark because I'm sure he didn't use 100 gallons on his tank to clean with it. He probably has a good ratio between cleaning strength, time needed, and cost figured out.

On my cleaning bucket I use it strong but I'm going for the 15 minute super clean and I use it over about a 6 month period over and over again.
