Return plumbing question

Gonna Need A Bigger Tank
I currently am planning to have my return come over the back of my tank (as opposed to using the drilled holes) - see pic below. I'm wondering if I could make a "shelf" on the back of the tank for the plumbing to sit on instead of having it rest on the top of the tank (as in the pic).
How would I make a "shelf" adhere to the glass? Would/Could it be strong enough???
Other options to "hang" the plumbing off the back of the tank?

As far as adhering something to the glass. I would think the regular aquarium silicone would do.

Looking at your pic though, it looks like all of the returns are right where you have crossbracing.

Yeah, I would have them point "upward" and the use the adjustable loc-line to form the correct "path" I wanted for the flow.
