I think I'm in need of a stronger return pump.
I bought a used 40 breeder with a 20L sump. I can't ID the current return pump that came with the system.
The problem is I can close the over flow's ball valve about 85% (with the returns 100% opened) before water begins to collect in the over flow box. I'm just getting a trickle of water out of the return piping.
The return goes up a foot of flex from the pump to 3 quarter inch pvc with goes 90 degrees to a T off to two 90s as a sort of DIY spray bar. I think a combo of the old pump with no markings (possibly old and under powered for this setup) and this DIY type spraybar included with the system are my cause of restriction.
I think I probably need more flow through my sump.
Also have a ton of micro bubbles getting into the DT with no leaks that I can find and no visible bubbles beyond my baffles (fuge chamber and return pump chamber) and wonder if the return pump could be pulling air in somehow.
I'm figuring 2-3' of head so I'm rounding up to 4'..I'm shooting for 400-600 gph after head loss correct?
