Return pump options

My mag12 return pump went out last nite. I cleaned it up, and it will spin, but not well. Set it in the sump and had about 2 inches of head. Wondering what some other return pump options are? Was happy with the mag12, but what else is there? I have a 90g tank w/ 100g Rubbermaid sump. The bulk head in the sump is pressed against the wall so I can’t get to it. So I guess I would have to stick with submersible. Another option....I have a mag36 that I was going to use as for closed loop. I could use that and just add some more 1.5" plumbing to disperse the flow, and still probably get rid of the powerheads as well. all powerheads + mag12 return = almost the same amount of watts as the 36 probably.

I sent you a PM

If you could figure out how to do it external, I would go with a Velocity T-4. Runs a little hot but is dead silent and is a total work horse. Its only rated for 1225 g/h but I run 2 eductor returns in my main tank and feed my frag tank, chiller, and phosban reactor all off the same pump and I still have to crank it down quiet a bit. I think I'm even going add another 28 gallon species tank off the T-5, it still has some "juice" left.

The mag 36 is going to add a lot of heat to your tank running it internal so I would be careful

I agree with Nick on the Mag36 being too much pump and too much heat.

You could do an OceanRunner 3500 which is 900gph and 65 watts, or you could do an Oceanrunner 6500 which is 1700gph and 115 watts. These pumps run quiet and reliably. They are also very affordable.

Depending on your head pressure, the 1700gph might be the best bet.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Oceanrunners. Good pump for the money if your going to run internal. Run cooler than most for sure.

I agree about the Oceanrunners. However if short on cash you could use the MAG36, just ball vavle it before it enter's the main display. This will not hurt the pump at all and will save energy + you can control the amount of flow you want with a ball vavle.
