Return Pump Recommendation

Where is the sump loceated, under tank, in basement? How big is the sump? the tank? what size are the drains, type of drain?

I just switched from my Rio HF 14 because it was way too noisy...I now have an Eheim Compact plus 2000 on my 55 gallon tank. I love this pump...it's silent and runs great. Depending on the size of your system would decide what size to get...good luck

For brands I really like my eheim. It's a good idea to check the head loss for any model you are looking at, the diff designs of pumps mean that some handle height better than others. So like if you need 2000 gph with the pump level to the stand, or you only need 300 gph but it has to pump up from the basement, it makes a diff what type you buy. Basically, if you picture a curve where it gets less and less strong as the pump is lower than the tank, some models drop off faster than others.

You can't beat DC pumps. Look at Jebao DCT series. I have two DCT4000 (1100gph) and together they are queter than one 400gph rio. DC pumps use less power, generate less heat and since controllable, they can be used without a valve on the return.

And they have tremendous head loss. They have no pressure.

On my 65 g with a 20l sump and 29g refugium. I have the DCT 6000 Jaebo. It really puts out tons of flow even when running at the lowest setting. With just that running I have no dead spots in my tank.

Always amazed with people who come here, ask for help or opinions and than don't continue to be part of the discussion, or respond to requests for additional information. Why did they post in the 1st place?

I don't think 8 hours on a Friday afternoon is a crazy downtime, they probably have other stuff going on and will check back in a few. It's not like choosing a pump is an emergency
