Return pump running skimmer?

I know this isn't optimal by any means but will it work? My skimmer's pump is no longer working, in fact it has a wiring issue and tripped the breaker it was on... not fun... BUT I have a Mag 9 which is way too big for the 35g tank I own and was using it as a return from my 10g sump. Would it work if I were to redirect half of the output and put a valve on it to restrict the flow to the skimmer? I am just looking for an alternative until I can scrape together the money for a new skimmer (not pump, this one was nice but needs to be replaced).

It works. You will skim out some of your pods and such if you have a fuge that drains back to your sump. I have one return pump that feeds the DT, frag tank, skimmer, fuge and a few reactors.

it will work for sure, what you will want to do is put a ball or gate valve on it so you can regulate the flow of water into your skimmer. you dont want too much or too little water running thru it.
