return pump suggestion

I am currently running a 620GPH pump from harbor freight and it is LOUD. I am considering an eheim 1260 but am not sure if it will provide enough flow. I have a 55 gallon and I am planning to put a fee reactors on a T from the return line. I am pretty happy with the current pump besides the noise and it doesn't have enough flow through my fuge. I have a small circulation pump in the fuge to keep my chaeto stirring.

I have used a Mag 9 for years on my 120 and find it cheap, reliable and quiet. A mag 7 would probably do the trick on a 55 and you can get them for about $80. Good Luck.

I would upgrade to the 1262 for another $20. I run Eheims on all my tanks and am very happy with them. I used to run Mag's but found them to run hotter and more costly than the Eheims.

I saw the 1262 earlier, but a big appeal to the 1260 is I found one on eBay for 100 used. The 620 seems to work okay and I know about head loss. My tank is a 3 feet run from the pump so a 620 will put out about 440 at most and a T will drop that more. Would I be better to run the reactors on their own pump and go with a cheaper return pump?

+1

In addition, although the upfront cost may be a bit more, the eheim will last pretty much forever. I have one that is at least 30 years old now and still going strong.

The 1262 will also be able to handle that upgrade you are thinking about

anything i ever buy from harbor freight is always a temporary solution. the jebao pumps may be a good solution if you plan to add or remove reactors so you can adjust the flow
