does anyone use the Pentair Aquatics Quiet One pumps?
any pro's or con's?
Im looking at using the 3000 for a return on my 75g it runs at 780gph and 20w less than the mag 7

It's not pressure rated and you may be surprised at how little flow you get with height.

Go with a pressure rated pump and don't worry about the extra pennies every month to run it, it will be cheaper in the long run.

Try a Gen-X.

Lots of people complain of QO pumps not starting after a power down. I personally wouldn't consider a pump with that level of reliability. Mags have their issues, but at least they are reliable. If you want a much better pump in that range, look at the Eheim 1260. Super quiet, reliable, efficient, great flow.

I use Quiet Ones on both my tanks. A 3000 and a 1200.
Both are extrememly reliable in my experience. Much Quieter then mags.
My head pressure at 5 ft is more then enough for my 58 gallon. I would thick it should be alright w/ your 75.
Good luck.

thanks agfahy
I was thinking of using the 3000 i only need to go 3ft to my tank from my sump. i;m on a shoestring budget and i can get the 3000 with free shipping.

Ditto agfahy. I have a 6000 for a return pump. Very quiet, good flow. This is the first I've heard about restart problems. I've been turning mine off and on a couple times a week for feeding purposes for quite a while now with no problems.

I did a lot of homework when I was trying to decide on a return pump, and I think the Quiet Ones also use a lot less power than the comparable (model for model) Mags from what I remember.

I decided on the Quiet One because I first bought a Mag 5 and was disapointed with both the heat and the noise.
Quiet Ones make absolutly no noise and heat is never an issue for me now.
I've never has a failure issue with any pump that I've owned, (Knock on wood). Not even after a power outage and I live in the midwest. Storm season brings lots of power outages.
