Return pump?

What are you guys useing for your return pump from sump? Pumps like Turbo sea? or sea horse?

mine is moveing about 1000GPH but would like to step it up just a tad. enless you think its just better to add pwr heads, i just know my return pump is getting old and probly time to replace it.

I guess that all depends on what your set up is like. Tank size, what your keeping in it etc etc.

if its for the 240gl sequence dart is your best bet....turbo pumps from energy savers are junk and a seahorse is an electric pig not to mention it runs HOT...

Yes its for my 240 8ft tank, just figured when i replumb my tank and move my sump over i may as well replace the pump wile i am at it for the little bit more of a punch

Well if it helps I am running a dart on the same exact tank. I have it running my two 3/4" retuns. I also use two tunze 6060's though for added flow. I have a reef tank as well, not a FO tank. Not sure what you have.

ya i was thinking about going to pick up a Tunze this weekend, and leave my return pump alone for the time being, and yes this is not for my SW, yet, but you salt guys have a better understanding of what should be run and what is best over what is cheap, so i like your guy's opinion =)

Stick with 3-5x TO through your sump. Let Seio's, Streams, or a closed loop give you the TO in the tank.

I agree w/ Aquaticman. Forcing too much water, unnecessarily through your sump may end up introducing air bubbles into the aquarium and there is no point to risking that when you can easily use a powerhead or a closed loop (depending on how much replumbing that you want to do).

Silly question perhaps, but are you referring to a 3-5x TO of the sump or 3-5x TO of tank size?

usally the tank size

I went with a blue line 150 for my return and a Sequence Barracuda for the CL on my 180 I also have a wave box but dont really need it

Yep. Also, a powerhead will typically be tons more efficient (electrically-wise) than a return pump, so electric costs can be lower.
