Return pumps

Good morning all reefers, I'm currently building my own marine tank, the tank is 40 gallons,I have 2 1inch (25)mm overflows either end of tank and a 1inch (25)mm return line that goes into a section of 19mm hose to connect to my return pump. My sump is 27 gallons. Now I worked out that my return pump should give me around a cycle of 3000ltrs an hour, for a good turn over of around 10x tank an hour.
I purchased a said pump new-jet 3500 and it was gutless.,even with my ball valve wide open and the pump up to its max,it still dribbled out of my return?
Any ideas people would be much appreciated. I am going to exchange for a bigger pump to see if that helps

Be sure the pump can handle your head pressure.

3000 liters per hour is more than necessary and probably more than your overflows can quietly or safely handle. also i have no idea what pump you used. jet 3500?

No I'm in the uk. I thought that 3000ltrs an hr would be ample,,
I have around 2feet of plumbing back to the return inlet in the main tank on this is 4x 90 degree bends 1x non return valve and a ball valve going into a 19mm flex pipe to connect to the pump

I would suspect the head pressure is killing your flow 3000 ltr per hour is only 792 gph that is at 0 head height noe fig in 2' of travel 4 90 deg elbows and one ball valve. Prolly cut that in half at least
