return sock

I would like to see how many people use a return sock and if not why? I have taken mine out and it seems to help with reducing my nitrates...

I use one with no problems. How often did you change it out?

I can imagine that the sock would cause problems if debris is decaying in it for a couple of weeks. I don't run mechanical filters for that reason, well, that and I'm lazy. You could try cleaning it every few days or so.
