Review of the SEA BREEZE ATS

OK gang this is my review of the sea breeze ATS or ACU as he like to call it. (algae cultivating unit.)

a few notes to begin with.

this is a 4 cube unit. (I will modify it for a 2 cube unit by adjusting the screen size. he does make custom sizes if you need larger or smaller. I inquired about a 2 cube unit but decided if I ever wanted to upgrade to a large tank I could just make a new screen and be done. so I went with the 4 cube.

they are hand make to order in the UK. on 1st impression the build quality is TOP notice. built time is around a week. but shipping to the US is another 3 weeks. via Ebay global shipping. I bet there is
a fast but more expensive way like DHL or UPS.

price:
we all what to know how much right..around $200 shipped.

lighting:
2 bars of 15 watt led's each side (I am not sure if that is 15W each bar or 15w total I am guessing the later, almost positive.)

The wavebands for leds are as follows red 630mm, blue 430mm there is a warranty of 1 year on all leds. growth ratings are for blue 400-470 nanometers and red is 610-720 nanometers. (taken from the listing)
he clams there enough light to grow. I had him not mount mine as i might just go with some 660 deep reds from cree and call it a day.

Good think it was package well each of the slide out side and top where individually bubble wrapped. Thankfully as the box was deffentally beat up from the shipping companies.

With the top on and sides off.
Then top as side on..

Then a shot so you can see the groves. It's not butt jointed/welder but groves then welded. If that makes sence..

Not so sure I like the cut outs in the slide out side panels, But it could come in very handy depending on what I do for lighting....
It's both on top and bottom. Could let out more light then i was hoping for.
But also could act as air flow??
Not sure I contacted the maker to inquire what his intention where.

In the version you just bought, did they ever develop a light blocker for the base of the screen and did they reinforce the lid of the ATS or is it still a single sheet of acrylic? These are possible improvements that Atoll from the other forum and in the video had discussed with the builder.

it looks likes the lid did get some reinforcement i'll post a pic in the AM.
still no light blocker for the slot in the pipe but that's not to hard to DIY be really easy if I had a dremel. i am thinking a piece of PVC slid over the flow pipe.
or a while back I did see a light block plastic for sale i'll have to find that again.

also plan to leave an inch or 1.5 of non ruffed screen as I dont need a 4 cube screen.

Here a pic of the lid it's nice a strong. So I am guessing is better than the old version:
Stays in place as the goves fit right over the waterfall area. There is a Lil play but over all as of now I am happy with it.
Now juat have to figure out how to add it to my sump.

oh yeah I forgot about this thread...sorry guys I am slacking on getting this going.

Ok here is the update:
never got the LED that came with it to work, not even turn on. I contacted seller but no replay.

so I wired up my own 4 red 660nm and 1 420 UV on both sides. was thinking of doing that anyway...
post pis from my phone.

Seems like a nice unit, and price is not bad at all. Did you contact the manufacturer about the issue with the lights?

yes I did never got a replay. the plan was to use those leds that came with it do get it going then do DIY leds once I had some growth as not to fry the turf. guess now I will just have to watch it and see how it goes. might run with out the UV for the 1st moth? from what i understand ppl are getting good growth from those lights..

Is there a webpage to look at these units?

Corey

ebay UK takes about a moth to get your unit. a week to build then it sets at the shipping yard for 2 weeks or so then once its ships if pretty fast.

Here is what I did for my lighting
4-660nm reds with 1 42o nm UV on each side.

Only just seen this thread while looking for something else.
Firstly Gary was having some PC issues and he found posts going into his spam hence the lack of replies.
I introduced the slots into the top and bottom of the removable acrylic light panels to introduce passive ventilation. This does 2 things, it cools the LED's and reduces heat which was responsible for the lid warping. This along with the extra reinforcing should help prevent warping of the lid.
I made a light blocker out of a larger size PVC pipe which worked brilliantly. I simply cut the pipe to length and cut a wider slot in the pipe and slid it over the slot pipe. I then drilled holes through both pipes in the top and fitted in 2 small plastic screws that just pushed it.
The video linked above of the Seabreeze was made and posted on YouTube by me.
