RGComplete/Nanno 3600/Rotifer Diet?

With several buckets of Rotifers going at one time, the RGComplete seems a bit expensive for larger scale production, although I love the feed, I am wondering what other products I could use to do the same thing? There are many varieties on Reed's web site, just to many choices and not a lot of user friendly documents that lay this out for the simple minded person (Read Me).

Any help is appreciated.

Is growing your own Phyto out of your plans? You could get some starter cultures if you have the means to do it.
You could try some DT's. It is concentrated and I have read that people have started there cultures on this.

There's also agae paste from brineshrimp. they are mono cultures, but you could get multiple ones and follow thier directions for freezing. It's pretty dense stuff (don't know how density compares to reed's products).

I am wondering about the feeding instruction on the RGComplete. It reads 11ml for 1,000,000 rotifers, but if you want or have say 5,000,000 you need 55ML twice a day, that's 3.7oz a day or several 6oz bottles a week.

I'm not opposed to making my own, was just hoping one of the other feeds was less expensive for 30+ OZ use a week.

Just spoke to Eric at Reed and I was way over feeding. WAY..... RGComplete should be what I need, now that I know to cut back on the food.

 Sorry, had to laugh... its the same stuff. We (Reed Mariculture) produce Instant Algae products and they simply resell it.

I do not recommend using their methods to freeze it. Glycerin makes for unhappy rotifer cultures (bacterial blooms), which is why we stopped using it years ago.

The other feeds are less expensive, but with some you'll need to enrich, or add both ammonia and pH control. IN the end, its all a wash for the most part given time = money.

didn't know that. How would you freeze it?

Depends on what species of phytoplankton. Some you shouldn't freeze unless using glycerin, but like I said, glycerin is not a good thing to add to your culture (bacterial blooms). We have products you can freeze without impunity (Nanno3600), but they aren't good for enriching. Once you start getting into feeds that you need to enrich first, your time:money ratio flips and it becomes (for most) more economical to use an all-in-one feed (enriched feed).
