Ric questions.

The first week of December '07 I received two (one orange/blue, one blue/green , approx 1/2") ricordea in a package from Drs F&S. I've been feeding and they're presently about 2". How large can I expect them to get? How quickly do they spread without assistance? The rock they're on is about 12" x 12". Do I have room to add a couple more (thinking of different colors) or do I need to leave well enough alone?

I have a bunch of rics all close together some even touching. I had some over the years open up to about 4'' or so. Although I don't think that is typical for them. They can take awhile to propagate left on there own. It just depends on the mushroom itself and if the DNA of that ricordea is from a parent that tended to reproduce at a fast rate. I had some purple ones that I recently lost do to a unknown predator that would give me a new polyp every month or so. By far the fastest I have seen, but then again that isn't the typical speed of reproduction....

Ricordea tend to grow slow so you should be fine adding more. Usually they will grow a few mouths and strech out before they split. As they form a colony they will start to push up against each other which is fine.
